PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RESIDENTS TAKE ANNEXATION TO COURT
Their Goal: Maintain The Rural Lifestyle
The recent annexation of 7,045 acres of land by the City of Reno has angered numerous citizens who have fought it from the beginning. On April 1, the Citizens for Cold Springs filed a legal challenge in Washoe County District Court that could reverse the City Council’s action. The outcome of this case could decide whether the intent of Nevada statutes and regional planning rules has been subverted by the city in this and other annexations.
Citizens for Cold Springs is standing up for residents who have enjoyed a rural lifestyle for years without the threat of dense growth in the area. The annexation proposal described the benefits the city would enjoy if 13.5 million square feet of commercial development and 5,000 residences were built on the land. With warehouses in the city standing vacant and open land much closer to the city center remaining undeveloped, the group believes that the Cold Springs valley is not a logical extension of the city.
Citizens for Cold Springs has joined together area residents who
are affected by and opposed to the annexation.

We live in the Cold Springs valley and chose this area, among other things, to avoid the fiscal irresponsibility of the city. We also like larger lots, minimal traffic, minimal industry, lower taxes, inexpensive water, better roads, and better and more friendly law enforcement. The annexation is an affront to all we love about this area. It is also simply for the financial gain of a developer and the city and not for the best interests of the people, the city, or the county.
These facts being evident, we have created the group "Citizens for Cold Springs". As a group, we have filed a legal complaint in district court with the intent to reverse the annexation caused by the City Council's recent action.
