Keep the Cold Springs Valley Rural

We live in the Cold Springs valley and chose this area, among other things, to avoid the fiscal irresponsibility of the city. We also like larger lots, minimal traffic, minimal industry, lower taxes, inexpensive water, better roads, and better and more friendly law enforcement. The annexation is an affront to all we love about this area. It is also simply for the financial gain of a developer and the city and not for the best interests of the people, the city, or the county.

These facts being evident, we have created the group "Citizens for Cold Springs". As a group, we have filed a legal complaint in district court with the intent to reverse the annexation caused by the City Council's recent action. That suit has continued on and is now at the Nevada Supreme Court.

The current situation is the city's plan to rezone the land, in spite of the fact that there is no water in the valley with which to build. The city does not require any services be available prior to rezoning. The notice of the Planning Commission meeting advises that the rezoning proposed by the city is a result of community workshops. Amazing statement considering the proposal mirrors the developer's map almost exactly.

Jan. 18 - The City Planning Commission met and listened to the developer explain the "city's proposed" changes. Amazing to me that the city planner submits the proposal in his name, but the developer explains why it is a good thing. Wouldn't happen if the map wasn't what the developer wanted. The commission voted to go forward with the proposal and submit it to the City Council as presented. Welcome to Lifestyle Homes 2008, folks. And Lifestyle Industrial Park. And Home Depot. And Village Parkway extending to Red Rock Road, through three square miles of houses.

Jan 27 - Filed an appeal of the Planning Commission's decision.

Feb 20 - The City Council hearing of the zoning, master plan amendment, and appeal is on Feb 22, after 6:00pm. The staff report for it is here.

Feb 22 - The City Council heard arguments against the master plan amendment and rezoning and voted for it unanimously, anyway. Final vote on Mar. 8 after 10:30.

Mar 08 - Of course, the City Council voted to make the master plan amendment and rezoning final...

Mar 08 - WOW! The Regional Planning Commission voted to Take No Action on the settlement agreement!
